Petition for a venue

Redding, California is desperate for a music scene. It has slowly been strangled in the last 5 years. Please help the people in Redding convice the city to allow us to have a venue and sign this petition!

John Spurr (former American Waste drummer and the guy who runs The Space for the most part), me and a handful of other people have recently put into motion attempts to open a new venue in the area. Indie, hardcore, punk... everything. A solid, rock venue. Something serious and professional that would have to be treated as so. Not that we couldn't still have fun, obviously. We're eager to get the ball rolling and certain steps have been taken in order to speed this thing along as best we can.

With that said, we've put together an online petition available here. Read the statement and sign the petition if you're interested in getting a serious, community-based venue up and running in our area. Imagine being able to see your favorite bands down the street instead of having to drive to the bay area or Sacramento in order to see them at their next tour stop. I don't know about you but that isn't always in the cards for me when you've got bills to pay and a shitty job to report to five or six days out of the week.

Any convincing we can give prospective Redding area organizations for helping us out will help. So, please, don't hesitate to sign or spread the word to anyone you can about this.

If you go to shows, have ever gone to shows, play in a band, want to play in band or look to do whatever you can to support music local and otherwise... SIGN THIS PETITION! We'll all benefit from it in the end if we play our cards right and reach the necessary parties.

Thanks for reading. Keep an eye out for articles related to this in the Synthesis at some point in the near future.

Again, SIGN THE PETITION! DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO HELP OUT! RE-POST THIS, TELL ANYONE YOU CAN!

ZROCK

Social Concern will be on ZROCK's (106.7fm) 15 minutes of fame tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday night.

Check it out, 9:05pm-9:20pm. Call Randall, tell him you liked it, even if you didn't. :)

Poetry night

Barnes and Noble (1260 Churn Creek Rd.) will be hosting an open mic poetry reading on January 27th at 6:30pm.

All ages and skill levels are welcome. Call 222-2006 with any questions.

There really isn't much along these lines that ever happens in Redding, so if you're at all interested in poetry, you should come out so these events keep going on.

Rock Band seeking Vocalist

Progressive Rock/ Experimental band seeking talented, open-minded vocalist.

No screaming. No growling. No roaring. We want a real vocalist with a mature voice, a lot of energy, and time to practice. A wide vocal range is a plus.

We want someone that's easy to get along with...We want to build a friendship within the band and not just an association.

We're looking for someone preferably between the ages of 16 - 25. It's not because we have anything against older musicians, it's just easier to connect with people around our age.

Our influences include(but are not limited to): Mars Volta, At the Drive-in, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, King Crimson, Decemberists, Beatles, Miles Davis, and Fugazi.

I know it's a weird mix but we're a very interesting, weird band. We want to sound unlike anybody else.

So if you're interested at all, what so ever, then contact me...don't be shy...
